Jason Thoms

Dr. Jason Thoms is the Director of Choral Activities at Bismarck State College in Bismarck, North Dakota. He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the Dakota Pro Musica and host of Dakota Sings a radio show on North Dakota choirs, composers, and choral music which can be heard on Prairie Public Radio. Before moving to Bismarck in August 2020, Dr. Thoms spent over a decade serving as Professor of Music and Humanities and Director of Choral Activities at Concordia College New York. At Concordia, he took his ensembles on 15 domestic and international tours, singing for nearly 400 concerts, worship services, and special events across 49 US States, Canada, and Germany. Dr. Thoms has been a professional bass soloist and chorister for over 20 years and has sung with many of the top choral ensembles in the US including the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, South Dakota Chorale, Conspirare, Kinnara, Spire Ensemble, Bard Festival Singers, Collegiate Chorale, Artefact Ensemble, and the Saint Tikhon Choir. Jason is usually as a low bass, or octavist, in Russian Orthodox music. In recent years, Dr. Thoms has been a part of a number of professional recording projects including the 2021 GRAMMY®-nominated Kastalsky Requiem and the 2022 GRAMMY®-nominated Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom by Benedict Sheehan.
