An Epic Meditation on Choosing Gratitude
7:30pm | Friday, November 10
6:00pm | Saturday, November 11
Trinity Church Wall Street, Broadway & Wall Street, New York, NY
Come experience the world premiere performances of Benedict Sheehan’s new oratorio Akathist, an epic meditation on choosing gratitude. Artefact Ensemble will join forces with the Choir of Trinity Wall Street, Downtown Voices, Trinity Youth Chorus, NOVUS NY, and conductor Elaine Kelly, in New York’s historic Trinity Church Wall Street, to bring this glorious new choral-orchestral work to life. Three years in the making, Akathist weaves together a diverse array of musical languages—from medieval chant and minimalism to gospel and jazz—and is based on a unique text from the Eastern Orthodox tradition known as “Glory to God for All Things.” Sheehan’s powerful score offers a fresh perspective on sacred music. “Akathist stands as a radically constructive response to injustice and evil, inviting us to meet our world’s brokenness with gratitude, and thereby to transform it—and ourselves—into something indescribably beautiful,” says the composer. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime event! —Free admission.
