a community of vocal artists

“Choral music creates bonds between people, opening them up to themselves and one to another, and genuinely making people—and the world around them—better.”

Benedict Sheehan | Artistic Director

Immersive

Hailed as “seamless” and “technically flawless” (Musical America) Artefact Ensemble brings together leading vocal artists from around the country to craft immersive experiences of human connection through the transforming power of song.

Intentional

Partnering with schools, community organizations, and religious institutions, Artefact Ensemble — in collaboration with its sister organization, Artefact Institute — offers workshops, masterclasses, and co-operative music-making experiences to students, teachers of music, music ministers, and underprivileged audiences who might not otherwise have access to high-level ensemble music. Its 2023-24 season will include a free-of-charge summer program for talented high school students in Bethlehem, PA.

AKATHiST

AVAILABLE NOW!

Benedict Sheehan’s sublime new oratorio, Akathist, was recorded last fall at New York’s historic Trinity Church with The Choir of Trinity Wall Street, Artefact Ensemble, NOVUS NY and others. The groundbreaking work weaves together medieval chant, Anglo-American hymns, gospel, and jazz – offering a unique perspective on sacred music and a radically constructive response to injustice and evil. Akathist asks us to meet the world’s brokenness with gratitude and healing, and thereby to transform ourselves.
